Conference Service Project

Accompanying her farm worker parents to Oregon, Virginia Garcia spent her last days in a migrant labor camp where she developed blood poisoning from a simple foot wound. Although attempts were made to treat her, the unavailability of cultural, and language appropriate medical services ultimately resulted in her death.

In the spirit of our conference theme, “Tending The Global Garden”, the host committee for the 2008 ACUI conference invite you to participate in a service project for next fall at Portland Community College, Rock Creek. Our challenge to you and your campus is to collect the following items for the Virginia Garcia Medical Clinic in Cornelius, Oregon:

  • Alaska: Bar soap and wash clothes
  • Idaho: razors & shaving cream
  • Montana: Tooth Brushes and Tooth Paste
  • Oregon: Baby diapers
  • Washington: Shampoo & Conditioner
  •
